Poetry & Partnership in Action
IOW Alumni were very excited to participate in the Loyola Youth Poetry Summit on June 3rd. The Summit was organized by Loyola Law School’s Center for Restorative Justice and kicked off the first annual Another Way: Restorative Justice for Youth Conference.
Ten Alumni mingled, networked and recited original pieces while enjoying an amazing dinner catered by Homegirl Café. Young people from Homeboy Industries, Youth Mentoring Connection, Youth Justice Coalition and Street Poets also participated in the event. Summit organizer Seth Weiner, Co-Director of the Center for Restorative Justice said, “It was very meaningful for law students and professors to hear the voices of youth on issues of crime, punishment, justice and healing. Los Angeles is rich with diversity, imagination and art and the Youth Poetry Summit was proof of that. We were honored to have youth and staff in attendance from the very best organizations around who do this kind of work.”
IOW applauds its courageous Alumni for participating in this important event.
